Sirhowy Valley Ride

Sunday 28th October. This was an excellent ride that was organised by Nick Canham. I thought I knew my way around the Gwent Valleys, having written various publications on the subject, but a lot of this was new to me and very impressive. The ride along the canal from Fourteen Locks at High Cross, near Newport, to Risca was wonderful, as was the Sirhowy Valley path, which is also off-road and takes you through woods gradually from Cross Keys up to Pontllanfraith (the bridge by the speckled church) and the Half Way House Inn. I’m not sure what it’s half way between – it might have been half way to paradise if the staff hadn’t been so surly and the food had been better. (more…)
